Needed to Play:
- 6 barefoot players
- Two 12 ounce aluminum cans
- One regulation (175g) Ultimate disc
Basics:
- Two teams of three
- Two 12 ounce aluminum cans placed 20 yards from each other
- Game played to three points
- A point is scored when the opposing team’s can is knocked over
Field Setup:
Place cans 20 yards apart. Be sure that there are no obstructions
between the two cans. Any other obstructions due to the placement of the cans
are up to the players in that game. There are no boundaries.
Starting the Game:
To determine starting possession, flip a coin or disc. Winner of the
flip gets possession of the disc to begin the game. This team is referred to as
the offense.
The offense first is given a chance to set their positions. All
offensive players must be behind their can in respect to an imaginary
perpendicular line which connects the two cans. The offensive team will signal
readiness, after which the defense may set their positions. The defense may
position themselves anywhere. Once the defensive team signals readiness, the
game may begin.
A game begins when an offensive player who is standing over their can
taps the disc on the ground.
Possession:
See “Possession (II, O)” in the UPA’s
Rules of Ultimate: 11th
Edition.
Stalling:
See “Stalling (XIV, A)” in the UPA’s
Rules of Ultimate: 11th
Edition.
Modification: A stall is called at five instead of the
written 10 seconds.
Turnovers:
A turnover occurs whenever a disc out of possession of an offensive
player touches the ground. Once the disc touches the ground, it may be picked
up by any defensive player. At this point, the defensive team then becomes the
offensive team, and vice-versa.
Scoring
A point is scored when a can is felled by either of two occurrences:
- any direct or indirect contact by a thrown disc
- any body part of a defensive player touches the can.
Note:Acts of “God” which fell a can, such as a wind.
gust or earthquake, do not count as a point.
